MEGAN MORTON “MY DREAM DAY” - NORTHERN RIVERS, NSW (DRAFT)
Megan Morton, Adventuress, Stylist & Travel Designer at her home in the Northern Rivers.
The Northern Rivers region of NSW - home to lush macadamia fields, stunning coastal towns like Byron Bay and Lennox Head, and the inland hub of Lismore - often finds itself in the spotlight. Whether it's making headlines for extreme weather or inspiring sea-change dreams, this part of the world has a magnetic pull.
Megan Morton, one of Australia’s most renown interiors stylists and owner of “The School”, (designers of immersive travel experiences for women), made her own green-change during the COVID crisis. Leaving behind the buzz of Sydney, she has embraced the slower, greener lifestyle of the Northern Rivers.
The outlook from Megan’s property, Mimosa Moon.
Megan’s business is built around creating travel experiences that connect people to the heartbeat of a city, whilst removing the mental load of planning. It may sound simple, but for those of us making countless decisions each day, this kind of thoughtful travel is a real luxury.
Travelling with Megan is a true joy. Her itineraries are filled with unexpected gems and local treasures, all thoughtfully curated to help you savour the best a place has to offer. That’s why we’re thrilled to have her share her Dream Day in the Northern Rivers. You’ll need a car for this one, but what awaits is a day of discovery—full of magic, beauty, and inspiration.
“Everything up here is about the water. We’re surrounded by the glorious Caldera and that is what makes the atmosphere here so intoxicatingly beautiful.
Due to my work schedule that takes me all over the world four times a year and my children living in all parts of the world, I deliberately live remotely in the hinterland on a cattle property in an area that is very famous for its craft market that has a tag line ‘make it, sew it or grow it!’. Heaven!”
My Dream Day looks just like this:
Cacao Ceremony
I start the day with ceremonial cacao and coffee with my farm helper. It’s a treasured time as we set our intentions for the day ahead.
“I head to Dhezi Deli and Bexhill General Store (local and euro provisions for a Protestors Falls picnic run by my favourite Indian family, headed by Suzie Perlo, the first friend I made here and daughter of legendary blueberry farmers)”
At home with Megan Morton
I’d then do a Byron run to Happy Days for coffee and a sandwich (where they make their own bread for their sandwiches - it’s incredible!)…
Fresh peach, honey, mint and ricotta on toast at Happy Days, Byron Bay
… before heading to Herb Remedy for a naturopath appointment and collect some of their handmade soap.
Lennox Head Beach
Roadside flower stall, Northern Rivers NSW
I’d come home via the Happy Doughnut Van in Clunes and pick up some treats for afternoon tea at home. Their sour cherry donuts are next level and what’s not to love about anyone who’s slogan is “handing out joy to the world'“.
While I go to all the beautiful beaches like Wategoes, Belongil and Lennox Head Beach (this one is where I can take my horse and my dog) my dream water is the heritage listed Protestors Falls at the end of my road.
Protestors Falls has a sense of wonder and is full of real life magic. While there is never a bad time to go. I love going at about 5 o’clock because there’s a possibility you catch the daily rainbow in between the falls.
Most people are out in the daytime for their big luscious meal, but at night time my area has dumpling and pizza pop-ups every week. The Eltham Hotel is a gorgeous pub where the food is great and the drinks are cold.
My local Tavern is also a vibe with Matt Damon doing his interviews with the locals at the bar!
I also love eating at You Beauty in Bangalow but the best of mouthfuls are found at the Nimbin Market where on Wednesday I get handmade miso from the Japanese dealer and Nimbin Valley Cheeses.”
There’s so much to enjoy here. Hope you enjoy exploring this stunning region of Australia.
